The average SME uses more marketing tools than it needs and gets less value from each one than it should. A well-designed MarTech stack is not about having the most tools — it is about having the right ones, connected correctly.
What a MarTech Stack Is
A MarTech stack is the collection of software tools a business uses to execute, measure, and optimise its marketing. At minimum, this includes a website, an analytics platform, and a way to communicate with customers.
The Core Layers
- Data and analytics: GA4, Looker Studio
- Customer communication: Email platform, WhatsApp Business
- CRM: HubSpot, Zoho, or a lightweight alternative
- Advertising: Google Ads, Meta Ads
- Automation: Make, Zapier, or native integrations
The Most Common Mistake
Businesses buy tools before defining the process the tool is supposed to support. The result is a stack full of subscriptions that overlap, don’t integrate, and require manual work to maintain.
Define your customer journey first. Then identify the gaps where a tool would genuinely reduce friction or improve visibility.
Evaluating New Tools
Before adding any tool to your stack, ask three questions: Does it integrate with what you already have? Who will own it and maintain it? What does success look like in 90 days?
If you cannot answer all three clearly, you are not ready to buy the tool.
